Security

Nearly everyone agrees on the power of connecting embedded devices to networks, including the Internet, but the security risks associated with the Internet are becoming one of the greatest concerns to people everywhere. Incidents involving hacking into traditional computers have been well publicized, but imagine the implications of a malicious intrusion into a transportation or patient care system. The fundamental security challenge stems from the fact that the IP protocol, on which nearly all networks - including the Internet - are based, has no built-in security mechanisms. Thus, there are no native ways to prevent such activities as unauthorized use or eavesdropping.

Fortunately, the IETF has developed a number of standards which, when fully implemented, provide various security features. These standard protocols, such as IPSec/IKE, SSL, SSH, and SNMPv3 can be utilized to deliver authentication, encryption, packet integrity, and replay protection, all of which significantly improve a system’s overall security. As with other embedded software technologies, in order for these protocols to be effective, they must be high performance, make efficient use of the device’s processor and memory resources, and be easily ported to many environments.

Embedded Solution Partners offers a complete range of security products from TeamF1. These products span a comprehensive set of security standards, including IPSec/IKE, SSH, SSL, Firewall, NAT, Kerberos, Radius, X.509, and 802.1x port security.

Embedded Solution Partners offers the leading SNMPv3 solutions on the market, EMANATE® and EMANATE/Lite, from SNMP Research International. In addition, we have deep experience in embedded security and can help analyze our clients’ security needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
